Morelia kept their Liguilla hopes alive, with a win on the road against Santos. Estela Gómez put Santos right on board in the first minute when Cinthya Peraza made a good move and hit a through ball looking for Gómez, who shot it past Diana García. Monarcas María Cruzaley tied the match in the 16th minute when after a series of rebounds she hit a shot with her back in sort of a bicycle kick that went in past Wendy Toledo for the tie. In the second half, in the 50th minute, a poor pass from Katia Estrada back toward Toledo was intercepted by Jocelyn Flores who had just went in the field took advantage of the defensive error, and shot it into the wide open net. Monarcas continued to keep scoring more goals.
But the time was up, and there were no more chances. With the win, Morelia is the only team remaining outside of the Liguilla that can end up making it in. They’ll need to win at home against Veracruz though, and that Toluca loses their last game. As of Santos they no longer aspire to make it to the Liguilla. They remain in the 16th position with 16 points.
