The first ever home match in MLS for Inter Miami CF will take place on March 14 next year. This will mark the MLS’s return to South Florida after almost two decades of absence. The 2020 expansion debutants home opener will kick off vs the 5 time MLS Cup champions at 11:30 PT at their temporary new home in Fort Lauderdale. “Futbol is not a sport, it’s a lifestyle. What we are bringing to South Florida on March 14 is a club that unites fans and visitors from all over the world together for the love of the game,” said Jurgen Mainka, Inter’s chief business officer, in a statement. “This is a historic day that our community has waited for, and we look forward to experiencing it together.”
Miami will play at their new 19,000 seat Stadium for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. They’re also constructing a state of the art, 50,000 square foot training facility for their first team, and academy programs also at the same location, where former Lockhart Stadium was. The Fort Lauderdale venue will serve as the home of the Inter’s USL League One side once the first team’s permanent home is completed. It will be part of the Miami Freedom Park project near the Miami International Airport.
