Colombia managed to win the game even with James Rodriguez absence due to his knee injury, and the inclement weather. Rodriguez tweaked his knee at the team’s final training session. 36,063 fans attended the South American friendly. Just before the final whistle Morelos headed the ball, sliding it past the line with a little help from Davinson Sanchez to put “La Tricolor” 1-0. Both team rosters included big names, as of Peru their roster included five MLS soccer players, including Raul Ruidiaz. Colombia dominated the game since the beginning.
Morelos took a shot from close range in the 13th minute, but Pedro Gallese saved it. The most dangerous from Peru’s side was the captain Paolo Guerrero. Who in the 26th minute squeezed through two Colombian defenders, and was in great position to score. But Ospina dove to catch the ball. Mendoza nearly scored another header goal for Colombia in the 89th minute but Gallese denied him. Both teams were eager for that victory.
